On 30 July 2021, the WP2 “Sustainable Building” Science Workshop took place. It was attended by representatives from Stuttgart University, the leader of the Build4People Work Package #2 “Sustainable Building” and by its local collaboration partners from the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC). Further, it got attended by the director of the Cambodian Institute of Urban Studies (CIUS), Dr. Tep Makathy, and by other Build4People team members.
The main aim of this event was to introduce and to discuss the WP2 research plan, respective milestones and related activities during the Build4People RD phase together with the local research and implementation partners.
After an informal exchange at the beginning of the event, Dr. Michael Waibel gave an overview of the general approaches of the Build4People project.
This was followed by a presentation of the WP2 research associate Christina Karagianni, who after a general introduction related to the field of sustainable buildings in Southeast Asia explained about the methodology of the WP2 building audit and measurement campaign, envisaged for about 100 buildings in Phnom Penh.
After this, representatives from ITC provided insights into a recent survey on energy consumption of households in urban and sub-urban Cambodia, done together with a Japanese university.
This was followed by a presentation of Dr. Dirk Schwede, the leader of WP2, who explained about a recent measurement campaign implemented in Hanoi in the context of the CAMaRSEC project, also funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
The workshop was concluded by a fruitful open discussion which set the basis for the future joint cooperation.
