Build4People research was presented at the 7th NEST Conference in Lyon, France, on May 5-6, 2022. The conference was organised by the Network of Early Career Scholars (NEST) and held under the theme of global sustainability transitions. It was the first NEST conference to focus explicitly on sustainability transitions beyond the Global North. Around 80 early career researchers in the field of sustainability transitions participated at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon or digitally and presented and discussed their ongoing work.
Build4People was represented by Ravi Jayaweera in a session on sustainability transitions in the building sector. His presentation was based on a conference abstract co-authored by Christina Karagianni and Dirk Schwede both from Build4People Work Package “Sustainable Building), as well as by Michael Waibel, overall Build4People consortium leader. The presentation centred on a transition governance approach that the team has context-sensitively developed based on a prior system analysis. Ravi Jayaweera presented the concept of the governance approach, the Build4People Sustainable Building Arena (SBA), and shared first results.
Other presentations in the session covered the influences of circular construction practices on work relations in the Flemish building sector (Matthias Multani), and effects of inter-organizational collaboration in circular construction in the Netherlands (Manon Eikelenboom).
The conference was complemented by interactive workshops on transdisciplinary and global forms of cooperation and insightful keynotes by Rüya Percinek, Bipashyee Ghosh and Adriana Marotti.
