Build4People Input during SURE Synergy Workshop No. 8 “Cooperation Leading to Successful Implementations”, 15 February 2023

On 15 February 2023, the SURE Synergy Workshop No. 8 “Cooperation Leading to Successful Implementations” took place online.

In this context, the Build4People project received the opportunity to provide an input during session 1 “Which type of collaborations are necessary to ensure a successful implementation of the project´s outcomes and who should be involved?”

Dr Anke Blöbaum, Magdeburg University, presented insights from Build4People project jointly prepared with Dr. Michael Waibel, Build4People project coordinator, Hamburg University.

Thereby, she stressed that a pre-condition is a smart project consortium architecture which is not only multi- but transdisciplinary and which brings together stakeholders from academia, the local and national state, the corporate sector, civil society as well as international donor organisations. The Build4People has followed this approach with its multiple research partners, implementation and dissemination partners from different spheres.

Furthermore, she highlighted, that the Build4People Ecocity Transition Lab series in cooperation with Phnom Penh Capital Hall in 2022, and with the most famous developer companies of Cambodia, Borey Peng Huoth in 2023, as well as the Build4People Sustainable Building Arena are suitable joint trans-disciplinary formats which gather local pioneers from different spheres to develop progressive visions and narratives of urban sustainability and justice.

Dr Anke Blöbaum concluded that trans-disciplinary action research should use participatory methods and cross-cutting interventions from transition governance approaches and that integrated urban development and planning culture should be understood as a process and dialogue. However, to become finally successful, strong personal commitment as well as intensive communication and dissemination efforts are required.
