BuildPeople Delegation Trip 2024 “Urban sustainability best practices in Germany”: Kick-off

With the arrival of the first participants on 02 June 2024, the BuildPeople Delegation Trip 2024 “Urban sustainability best practices in Germany” started.

All in all, 12 Build4People partners from Cambodia are joining this trip representing the Phnom Penh Capital Hall and four local universities (the Royal University of Phnom Penh, the Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia, the Institute of Technology of Cambodia, the Royal University of Agriculture) and two civil society organisations, CIUS (Cambodian Institute for Urban Studies) and W.A.E. (Women in Architecture and Engineering).

After the arrival, the first activity was a joint walk from the accommodation place at the old building district of Schanzenviertel till St. Pauli neighbourhood.

There, we paid a visit to the public place Park Fiction, which is a model for independently self-organised dialogical processes.

Inviting artistic tools turned the planning process of Park Fiction into a playful platform for exchange. This is more complex than pure yes/no decisions, requires curiosity instead of instruction, collective enquiry instead of ready-made plan, ideas ping-pong instead of queries, process instead of data collection, making each other smarter, playing together with ideas and drafts. The parallel planning process and collective wish production are the central conceptual components of Park Fiction and were carried over several years from the late 1990s onwards (paragraph source: https://park-fiction.net/).

This was followed by a walk along the waterfront of Elbe River past the famous Fischmarkt (fish market) to a restaurant, where we enjoyed joint dinner with a view towards Elbe River.
